Canadian Afghan Mission Legacy Album Launches OTTAWA, ONT. – On Monday November 3rd, the Cameron Highlanders will host the public launch of the coffee table book “Afghanistan: A Canadian Story” at 6:00 p.m. at the Cartier Square Drill Hall. 2 Queen Elizabeth Drive, Ottawa, Ontario.

“Afghanistan: A Canadian Story” is a chronological compilation of photos and stories from almost 150 men and women who served Canada in Afghanistan between 2001 and 2014. Volunteers from across Canada have collected stories and photos from Veterans of this mission for over four years, drawing on the experiences and reflections of members of the Canadian Armed Forces, the RCMP, Municipal Police, Corrections Canada, embedded media, and civilians. The result is a fascinating and often moving collaborative narrative that provides a rare glimpse into the human perspective of the longest ever Canadian combat mission.

Keynote speakers will be Lieutenant General Jonathan Vance, Commander of Canadian Joint Operations Command (CJOC) (subject to operational demands), who served two tours with distinction in Afghanistan, and Major General Dean Milner, Commander 1st Canadian Division, and the last Canadian commander in Afghanistan.

The keynote speakers will be followed by Words of Remembrance for those Canadians who lost their lives in the Afghan Mission and two minutes of silence.

The launch will be supported by a traditional military ceremony, with bands, flags and an escort and will include a presentation of photographs drawn from the Canadian Forces Combat Camera Afghan Mission collection.
